MANILA, Philippines - The government spends P150,000 a month for the detention of businesswoman Janet Lim-Napoles, the alleged mastermind behind the P10 billion pork barrel scam, the Philippine National Police said on Tuesday.
Chief Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac, PNP-Public
Information Office head, said the PNP is spending P5,000 a day to detain
Napoles at Fort Sto. Domingo, Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
Napoles has been detained at the police camp since August
last year for serious illegal detention case filed by "pork barrel"
whistleblower Benhur Luy at the Makati City Regional Trial Court.
"(The PNP is spending) P150,000 every month in guarding
Napoles. (Inclusive of) collateral expenses -- utilities, operational
expenses," Sindac said.
" [The funds are spent for] maintenance and
operating expenses, utilities, food of the security and food for
Napoles...," he said.
